CST 300 Week 5

WELCOME TO WEEK 5

Part One: Teammates' Goals

Part Two: Capstone Ideas

After viewing capstone presentations, these are the three potential capstone project ideas that I have:

  1. Creating a service for parents of k-12 students, where communication with teachers is facilitated. Effectively keeping track of students' progress and allow parents to view their quarter grades could be beneficial to the students' success each semester.
  2. Developing an application for book enthusiasts who would like to connect and engage in discussions about the books they are currently reading. An app that resembles a book club.
  3. Creating a health and wellness application that provides reminders for medications or vitamins and offers fitness recommendations customized to different goals or age groups.
Part Three: Journal

This week on OLI, I learned that it is better to address a conflict sooner rather than later, as discussing it before the problem escalates is better. Some notable early signs of a conflict include:
  1. Body Language
    1. withdrawal
    2. tensing
    3. head-shaking
  2. What is said/not said
    1. disagreeing
    2. insisting in right or wrong
    3. refusal to speak or discuss an issue
I also learned the importance of conflict strategies. The significance of the relationship with the other person or the issue you care about determines which strategy you should apply in a conflict. For instance, use "avoiding strategically" when the conflict doesn't involve anything you care about or any relationship you need to maintain. In this case, there is no need to engage. Using "forcing strategically" is when you stand your ground on a conflict and don't care about maintaining the relationship with the person.

I am certainly considering internships. They are very important, and it appears that having internships on one's resume often facilitates finding a job. I have not thought about master programs yet, but if circumstances allow in the future, I would like to continue my education and expand my skills.
